LAKEWOOD, COLORADO (Worthy News)– Jack Phillips, an owner of a bakery in Colorado, said he will no longer sell wedding cakes after the Colorado Civil Rights Commission ruled that he discriminated against a “gay couple” when he refused to sell them a cake.

Phillips said he doesn’t believe in gay marriage and refused to sell them a cake.

“We would close down the bakery before we would compromise our beliefs,” Phillips said after the hearing.

Colorado’s constitution doesn’t recognize “same-sex marriage,” and attorneys representing Phillips said the decision is a step too far.

“The government … seek[s] to impose a new belief system upon Jack [Phillips], one that is fundamentally at odds with his conscience and his liberty,” explained a legal filing from attorneys with the Alliance Defending Freedom representing Phillips and his Masterpiece Cakes in Lakewood.

The Colorado Civil Rights Commission also ordered Phillips to submit quarterly reports about the customers he refuses to serve and to “retrain” employees to serve everyone.
