Presbyterian Church (PC-USA) Vote to Allow Same-Sex Marriages

WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– The highest governing body of the Presbyterian Church(USA) voted Thursday, by a 3-to-1 margin, to allow its ministers to perform same-sex marriages wherever such marriages are legal, according to The Christian Post.
But Carmen Fowler, president of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, told The Christian Post that PCUSA couldn’t pass an authoritative interpretation for same-sex marriage while its Book of Order still defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
“They’re trying to solve that by sending an amendment to the presbyteries which formally changes the language,” said Carmen.
Indeed, PCUSA has approved an amendment redefining marriage as between two people, but this has yet to be ratified by a majority of the denomination’s district governing bodies.
In a prepared statement, the Presbyterian Lay Committee publicly repudiated the actions of the PCUSA General Assembly.
“The Presbyterian Lay Committee mourns these actions and calls on all Presbyterians to resist and protest them … God will not be mocked and those who substitute their own felt desires for God’s unchangeable Truth will not be found guiltless before a holy God”.
Three years ago, PCUSA had voted to allow the ordination of gay and lesbian clergy.
