I fail to see how saluting the Nisshoki is any different than saluting America's own flag. Its the national flag of Japan. Let them do what they want with it. We salute our flag, and yet no one accuses us of worshiping Betsy Ross, George Bush, or any other person.

Also, whoever wrote this article Fails Religious Studies Forever. Allah and YHWH are the same thing. Allah is the God of the Muslims, who stole Him from the Christians, who stole Him from the Jews, who probably stole Him from somewhere else. People like to steal deities.

Quite honestly, I highly doubt Bush intended it as worship. He probably didn't realize it was worship. But I don't see what the problem is. It may just be because I'm a good for nothing lazy liberal, who also happens to be a religious syncreticist, but I don't see a problem with. Then again, I've paid respects to a few Kami as well.

As far as I'm concerned, Shintoism really does need to drop the Emperor worship thing. It's just not working out. But there are a myriad other Kami who are completely innocent. They're not demons, contrary to what some Christians or followers of other religions might think. They don't even act in the "Ruler of the Universe" gig YHWH has. More like Angels, or Saints, really.

I must agree with Dr. Dunavant. When among the Christians, I am Christian. Among the Buddhists, I am Buddhist. Among the Jews, I am Jewish. Among the Shintoists, I am a Shintoist.
