6.1 Mag Earthquake Kills More than 380 in China

A strong earthquake shook the southern Pacific coast of Mexico as well as the capital and several inland states Thursday, sending frightened people into unseasonal torrential rains that were also bearing down on the coast.

BEIJING (Worthy News)– A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern China killing at least 380 people and leaving at least 1,800 injured. Some 12,000 homes were destroyed and another 30,000 were damaged in Sunday's earthquake.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck southwestern China on Sunday, killing at least 367 people and leaving 1,881 injured in a remote area of Yunnan province, and causing thousands of buildings, including a school, to collapse.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake registered at a shallow depth of less than 1 mile (1.6 km). Chinese state media said it was felt most strongly in Yunnan as well as in the neighboring provinces of Guizhou and Sichuan.
