As I was reading through the news today, I came across an amazing story reported by the Washington Times — a man recovered from a 19-year coma! Jan Grzewski fell into a coma in 1988 after he was injured attaching two train carriages. While treating him, doctors also found cancer in his brain and were sure he would not live.
When they exhausted every means to treat this man, they released him to the care of his loving wife, Gertruda, who continued for 19 years to care for him in their home. For years, those who knew of the situation, insisted that Mr. Grzewski should be euthanized. Through all the opposition she faced, Mrs. Grzewski continued to care for him faithfully, believing he would come to.
Today, at age 65, Mr. Grzewski is alive and well — and his recovery is progressing so much so that he’ll soon be able to walk!
I was reminded of an equally amazing story that was published last July. The headline read, “Coma Man’s Rewired Brain Astonishes Doctors”. Terry Wallis awakened from a 20-year coma when his brain “rewired” itself! - [Source] Doctors were amazed that his brain grew tiny new nerve connections to heal those connections that were formerly broken in a car accident he suffered nearly 20 years ago.
These two stories are just from this past year — and there are probably many more where those came from!
So sad. Today’s world fails to see the self-healing and resurrecting power in God’s creation! Too many people believe that we are not made in the “image of God”– that we are simply an evolutionary form of animal. What has happened to us? Euthanasia, abortion, what else? Our society is rationalizing theĀ importance of human life. We should be a society that protects human life! Don’t you agree?

In 1989 I suffered a series of strokes. I lost function in my left leg, in speach, began “swearing” instead in all my attempts to communicate, lost memory, a whole assortment of disabilities. Everyone gave up. As if I was no longer fully human anymore. But Jesus never did. There was never a moment He was not able to get through to me. My thinking was like processing without all 6 cylenders firing. Sometimes I came up with the logical solution, sometimes not. It’s even funny now remembering the few things I can of those days. My heart still goes out to Israel’s former Prime Minister Sharon. But I can not wish full recovery on even my worst enemy. Because I have come back from that too. My family abandoned me. But God never did. I went on to have another child. And am even finacially secure now too. Not on welfare either. And this Sunday, my new daughter and I will begin our new career as Evangelists. It will be one of the easiest jobs I’ve ever had. People need to be aware of what usually happens to folks abandoned because of disablilies involving brain injuries in this country. I highly commend the man’s wife who stayed with him, took care of him, and loved him whether he returns to health or not. Likewise the husband who does the same. But they are the rare ones. Very rare. Even among Christian’s. Back in those days it was not at all uncommon for medical personel to “experiment” on me. Nor was anything done to me that was not commonly done to all like I was back then. Not only is it a miracle I am alive. It is another miracle I can talk. And another again that I have overcome the fear of my captors to go and evanglize openly without fear, in this country. The Church is not a corporation. The real Church of the living God is the people of that God. They are here, but not at all where one expects to find them. Even now.

I agree that we should be protectors of human life. If God thought it was so important as to sacrifice his only Son so that we might have life and have it more abundantly, then He must have thought we were and are something very special.
