Last year, an amazing archaeological discovery was made in Ireland while someone was digging up a bog. The manuscript they found was dated between 1000-1200 years old and was open to a page on which was written Psalm 83. While this was an incredible discovery, even more amazing was the timing in which this discovery was made! This artifact, which speaks of a war between Israel and the Arab nations was found within days of the war that erupted last summer. “A war between Israel and the Arab nations?!” you ask? Hasn’t this been going on for centuries? Yes, but Psalm 83 speaks of a specific war with specific tribes involved — and these tribes have not aligned themselves in any previous war between Israel and the Arab nations. This war is still to come according to Scripture. Read on.

Psalm 83 prophesies of an attempt to destroy the nation of Israel.
Psalms 83:3-4 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
Interestingly, on May 23, 2007, Iranian President Ahmadinejad threatened Israel on Iranian State Television — “If this year you repeat the same mistake of the last year, the ocean of nations of the region will get angry and will cut the root of the Zionist regime from its stem, 60 years of invasion and assassination is enough. If you do not cease invasion and massacre, soon the hand of power of the nations of the region will rub you criminals with earth.” — Source - MSNBC
Once again, the Islamic nations conspire and threaten to destroy this tiny nation. Is it any wonder that the Iranian President has been calling for the destruction of the nation of Israel? Is it not amazing how this fits into God’s prophetic Word?

Hello everyone
This is an interesting article. First of all I should mention I’m an ancient and medieval historian, however the bible has become my real passion since I became a christian years back.
I’ve noticed in the prophecies of scripture that God speaks of events that often have two fulfillments: a literal one which from our point of view has already occured in history. And a symbolic one which applies to our time (the end times) in which nations, places, events must be interpreted symbolically and not literally.
This must be the case for Psalm 83 folks because these tribes, if taken for who they literally are, no longer exist. There is, however, a symbolic connection between the people of Tyre and Lebanon for example. But the people of Tyre as they existed in ancient times, are no longer a people.
With this being said, there were events in history which could interpreted as LITERAL fulfillments of Psalm 83. When literal Babylon came against literal Israel in the early 7th century BC, it is arguable that all these literal nations were allied with Babylon. This is the literal fulfillment.
However, as George has pointed out, it’s possible by the providence of God this archeolgical find is leading us to consider Psalm 83 in our time once again. I believe the reason is because there is a symbolic fulfillment of this prophecy yet to be seen.
We are living in exciting times. God bless you all!

I agree with you, Jared, that the psalm was previously literally fulfilled, but could apply to today’s situation also.
Another prophetic passage pertaining to the current middle east situation — which has not yet been fulfilled — is Ezekiel 38-40. In those chapters, God reveals that specific people groups, most of which are Muslim, will make a massive combined attack against Israel for the purpose of annihilation. The amazing part is that Yahweh will step in and supernaturally destroy the attacking armies. I believe this will happen soon…perhaps even kicking off World War III and the Tribulation.

Has anyone noticed the comparisons to what is going on in the middle east “NOW” and its prediction in Isaiah 13-21. What I’m waiting for is the distruction of Demascus. I was discussing with my father the possible senerios for this possible outcome and relized that this may well be on the verg of happening. Check this out:
1) Before we invaded Iraq, we asked Turkey permission to use bases there to launch from. This request came though our treaty under N.A.T.O., in which Turkey is a member.
They renigged. And because of this, Saddam had time to move weapons to Syria.
2) What if some of those weapons were S.C.U.D. missles and Syria attempted to modify them, with Russian help, to carry a nuclear payload. Their range could reach Israel and parts of Europe. All they would need is the enriched urainium now being produced in Iran.
3) And since we know God is true to his word, he decides to use this very weapon, designed to destroy Israel, as a means to destroy Demascus while they were attempting to arm the weapon.
Who knows “HOW” he does it. All that can be said is to watch and see.

All this worrying of the fulfillment of individual prophecies is commendable as it indicates a desire for Gods’ Word. Let us not however forget that we search his word not to demonstrate our superior knowledge but to demonstrate his Supremacy. Lets not forget his words at Ecclesiastes xii;12/14
“And further my son be admonished by these. Of making many booke there is no end and much study is wearisome to the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion to the whole matter.
Fear God and keep his commandments
For this is man’s all
For God will bring every work into judgment
Including every secret thing
Whether good or evil {NKJV}

We’d better know where the next president stands on Israel. They’re both talking a good game. Here’s an interesting article on where they stand on some social issues.
