(Worthy News) – Two Christian activists who had previously served prison sentences were both beaten and detained in Vietnam’s Central Highlands last month.

According to Barnabas Aid, the men were held for twelve hours as Communist officials attempted to force student activist Chu Manh Son and journalist Tran Minh Nhat to sign criminal confessions.

Nhat had been released from prison in August after serving a four-year sentence for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government; Son had served two-and-a-half years in prison for so-called anti-state propaganda. Both believers said police have harassed them ever since their release.

Vietnam considers Christianity to be a Western religion and thus a threat to the Communist state.
