Russian FM: Once INF Treaty Is Gone, We Can Deploy Missiles Wherever the US Does

Vladimir Putin with Sergey Lavrov 2016 03 23

(Worthy News) – Russia reserves the right to deploy missiles in any part of the world in response to new U.S. missile deployments once the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty is terminated, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

The Trump administration last month suspended U.S. participation in the Cold War-era arms control treaty, following which the Kremlin did the same. Each side accuses the other of violating the INF Treaty, while denying the other’s accusations. Barring any unexpected reversal, the treaty will be dead in five months’ time.

Lavrov said Putin has made clear that if the U.S., once the treaty is no more, begins to deploy the formerly prohibited missiles “in any part of the world, wherever these new American missiles appear, we reserve the right to place our own missiles in the same region.” [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]
