Terror Threat Against Christians in Uganda

(MNN / Worthy News)-- The U.S. State Department issued a warning in Uganda of possible attacks. The warning indicates that "churches" face "specific" threats from al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based terrorist organization. The warning as more peacekeeping troops arrive in Somalia.

Security Message for U.S. Citizens:

This message is to alert U.S. citizens that the U.S. Embassy has received information regarding a specific terrorist threat in Kampala. The threat information indicates a group of attackers may be preparing to strike places of worship in Kampala, particularly churches, including some that may be frequented by expatriates, in May or June. The Embassy cautions U.S. citizens to exercise judgment when deciding whether to visit places of worship and other crowded public places and/or events that are potential targets to terrorists, and to avoid such places during May and June. -- U.S. State Department Issued Warning

Over the past few weeks, a rise of attacks throughout the region has intensified. Nearly two weeks ago, a grenade was lobbed near a mosque in Garissa, Kenya. The explosion killed one and injured 11. On May 16, an explosion in Gikomba, Nairobi killed 10 and wounded more than 70 people. On May 5, a twin explosion killed 3 and injured 86 along Kenya's Thika highway. While each of these attacks haven't been claimed, they bear the markings of al-Shabaab, which has been extending its reach outside of Somalia.

  1. Dougie, why don't you stick to verifiable facts to make your pre-ordained ptions? This malarkey was too easy to check.General 'Black Jack' Pershing vs. Muslim TerroristsNetlore Archive: Did U.S. General 'Black Jack' Pershing rid the Philippines of Islamic extremism in 1911 by executing a group of Muslim terrorists and burying them in a grave filled with pig's blood and entrails?Description: Email rumorCirculating since: Sep 2001Status: FalseAnalysis: False. I consulted Dr. Frank E. Vandiver, professor of history at Texas A&M University and author of Black Jack: The Life and Times of John J. Pershing, to ask if there's any truth to the above, and he responded via email that in his opinion the story is apocryphal. "I never found any indication that it was true in extensive research on his Moro experiences," Vandiver wrote. "This kind of thing would have run completely against his character."Similarly, I've been unable to find any evidence corroborating the claim that Muslims believe that "eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise and doomed to hell." It is true that Islamic dietary restrictions, like those of Judaism, forbid the eating or handling of pork because pigs are considered unclean. But according to Raeed Tayeh of the American Muslim Association in North America, the notion that a Muslim would be denied entrance to heaven for touching a pig is "ridiculous." A statement from the Anti-Defamation League characterizes the claim as an "offensive caricature of Muslim beliefs."
