(Worthy News) – The United Nations Security Council approved a US-led resolution on Russia’s war in Ukraine on Monday, following its earlier rejection by the General Assembly.

The brief, three-paragraph resolution maintains a neutral stance on the “Russia-Ukraine conflict.” It urges a swift resolution and lasting peace while expressing sorrow over the lives lost since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three years ago this month.

U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shae introduced the resolution for peace in the Ukraine War before the United Nations, emphasizing its significance.

“Our draft resolution is elegant in its simplicity—a symbolic yet essential first step toward peace,” she stated.

“In just three brief paragraphs, it echoes the spirit of the UN Charter, reaffirming, as in 1945, that this war is devastating, that the UN has a role in ending it, and that peace remains within reach.”

The Security Council passed the resolution with 10 votes in favor and no opposition.

Five nations—France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia—abstained from voting.

“The UN Security Council vote to pass the U.S. resolution was a significant win for U.S. diplomacy and [President Trump’s] efforts to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war,” the State Department wrote on X.

“This historic action sets the conditions for a path to peace and an end to the carnage,” the department added.
