U.S.-Iran Indirect Talks to Resume in Rome as Nuclear Tensions Escalate

(Worthy News) – Oman’s foreign minister announced that a fifth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States is set for Friday in Rome, continuing Oman’s quiet role as a mediator between the two rivals. The announcement, made on X, has yet to be confirmed by either Tehran or Washington.

The talks come as Iran’s nuclear program continues to accelerate. Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi declared Wednesday on state television, “Uranium enrichment in Iran will continue — with or without an agreement.” While maintaining that diplomacy remains an option, Araghchi accused the U.S. of making excessive demands.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed skepticism over the talks’ potential, stating, “I don’t think nuclear talks with the U.S. will bring results.”

Since the U.S. exited the 2015 nuclear agreement under President Donald Trump, Iran has enriched uranium to 60% purity, just below weapons-grade, and has amassed a growing stockpile. Trump has repeatedly warned that if diplomacy fails, a military option remains on the table, stating that the U.S. “will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon–by any means necessary.”

Israel has issued similar warnings, threatening unilateral action if Iran’s program crosses red lines. With the original deal’s restrictions now defunct, the Rome talks may represent one of the final opportunities to avoid a broader regional conflict.
