(Worthy News) – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has drawn a sharp line against Iranian influence and non-state armed groups in Lebanon, declaring that his government will not closely cooperate with Iran and will no longer tolerate weapons outside the state’s control.

“The days of spreading the Iranian revolution are over,” Salam said in an interview with Sky News Arabia on Monday. “We will not remain silent about weapons in Lebanon that are outside the control of the government.”

His comments come amid ongoing border clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces. On Saturday, smoke was seen rising over the southern Lebanese village of Blida following an Israeli airstrike, part of the intensifying exchanges along the Blue Line.

Addressing Lebanon’s posture toward Israel, Salam emphasized a conditional openness to peace. “We are a peace-seeking nation, but we want a real peace. Israel is occupying territories that belong to our country,” he said, referring to disputed border regions such as the Shebaa Farms.

Salam’s appointment as prime minister in January was widely interpreted as a setback for Iran-backed Hezbollah, which has held significant influence over Lebanese politics for years. However, Hezbollah appears undeterred.

In remarks published Monday by the pro-Hezbollah daily Al-Akhbar, the group’s deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem said, “Let it be clear to everyone: Don’t ask us for anything from now on. Let Israel withdraw, stop its aggression, release the prisoners, and fulfill all obligations under the agreement. After that, we’ll discuss what happens next.”

Qassem urged supporters to remain defiant. “Lebanon must be strong… Don’t be afraid of anything. What will they do to you if you raise your voice?”

The widening rift between Lebanon’s central government and Hezbollah highlights deepening tensions over national sovereignty, foreign alliances, and the country’s future in a region teetering on the edge of broader conflict.
