MOSCOW/WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Russia and Iran are set to sign agreements this week on the construction of new nuclear power units in Iran, the head of Tehran’s atomic energy agency confirmed during a visit to Moscow.

Mohammad Eslami, Iran’s vice president and nuclear chief, was quoted by Russian state news agency RIA as saying that the deals would expand cooperation on civilian nuclear projects.

Western governments have long accused Tehran of failing to comply with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an agreement meant to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran denies pursuing such weapons, while Moscow has repeatedly defended Tehran’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy.

The news comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin offered U.S. President Donald Trump a one-year extension of the New START treaty, the last remaining arms-control pact between Washington and Moscow. The agreement, due to expire on February 5 next year, limits each country to 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads.

Without an extension, both Russia and the United States could expand their nuclear arsenals unchecked, heightening concerns of a new arms race. “We are ready to extend the treaty without preconditions for one year,” Putin said, urging talks to define a longer-term framework.

The two developments underscore Moscow’s pivotal role in global nuclear diplomacy — both as a partner in Iran’s controversial energy program and as the key player in talks with Washington over the future of arms control.

Prophecy Insight: Russia–Iran Alignment and Ezekiel’s Gog-Magog War

The growing alignment between Russia and Iran is of great significance in light of Ezekiel 38–39, which describes a future conflict known as the Gog-Magog war. In that prophecy, a coalition led by “Gog, of the land of Magog” (widely associated with the territory of modern Russia) joins forces with Persia (the ancient name for Iran), along with other nations, to come against Israel in the last days.

This partnership, now being solidified through nuclear and strategic cooperation, mirrors the prophetic outline given more than 2,500 years ago. While many details remain in God’s hands and timing, Bible students note that the groundwork for such an alliance is unfolding before our eyes.

Ezekiel promises that the outcome will not be the triumph of this coalition, but rather a dramatic intervention of the Lord Himself:

“And I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations; then they shall know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 38:23)

For believers, the Russia–Iran connection serves as a sobering reminder of the accuracy of biblical prophecy and a call to watch, pray, and be ready, knowing that the stage is being set for end-time events.
