Supreme Court Allows Trump Administration to Continue White House Ballroom Construction

(Worthy News) – Chief Justice John Roberts on Friday temporarily allowed the Trump administration to continue construction on President Donald Trump’s planned White House ballroom, pausing a lower court order that would have halted much of the project while the legal fight continues.

The decision gives the administration at least a short-term victory in a high-profile dispute over presidential authority, historic preservation, and the future of the White House complex.

The project, estimated at roughly $400 million, involves construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom on the site of the former East Wing. The National Trust for Historic Preservation sued after the administration moved ahead without specific congressional approval, arguing that such a major alteration to the White House required further authorization.

The Trump administration has defended the project as both lawful and necessary, telling the Supreme Court that the ballroom and related work are tied to security needs at the White House. Justice Department lawyers cited threats against the president and recent assassination attempts as part of the administration’s argument for allowing construction to proceed.

Lower courts had ruled against the administration, with an order set to stop above-ground construction unless the Supreme Court intervened. Roberts’ temporary stay allows work to continue while the justices consider the administration’s emergency appeal.

For now, the ruling does not end the case. It simply keeps the project moving while the legal questions remain before the courts.
