Christians flee attacks in Nigeria’s northeast

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

JOS, NIGERIA (Worthy News)– Islamic militants attacked St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Wada Chakawa village, Nigeria, Sunday, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The attack by members of the Islamist Boko Haram sect was yet another in a series of sectarian assaults to impose Islamic law in an African nation equally divided between Christians and Muslims.

Haram’s attacks have continued unabated despite a declared state of emergency and the deployment of thousands of government troops.

“We are very confused and depressed because there’s not much you can do,” said Rev. Jerome Odineze. “The church cannot mobilize and provide security … sometimes you can’t have a church service at all. Worship is out of the question in some places.”

Ending all Christian worship in Nigeria is a means to an end for Boko Haram as it violently attempts to create a purely Islamic state.
