Nigeria: Suicide Bomb Kills 20 Christians in Kano

KANO, NIGERIA (Worthy News)– Christian sources said a suicide bombing Sunday in the Christian quarter of the Muslim-majority city of Kano, Nigeria, killed about 20 people, according to Morning Star News Morning Star News.

“The bomb attack occurred on Sunday night along Gold Coast Road in the Sabon Gari area here in Kano,” said the Rev. Murtala Marti of the Evangelical Church Winning All. “Twenty Christians were killed in the bomb blast, but police authorities are saying only five died.”

Marti said Christians were killed along the road and in nearby restaurants, though the likely targets were three local churches: the Methodist Church of Nigeria, an Assemblies of God and a Universal Reformed Christian Church that were all along Middle Road. The actual explosion happened at the intersection of Middle and Gold Coast roads.

“Most often the plot is to get at churches, but when it becomes impossible for the terrorists to get there, they usually detonate their bombs anywhere Christians are gathered, either in churches or restaurants,” Marti said.

Eyewitnesses told Morning Star News by phone that the bomber — who was driving a vehicle — had sought directions to several churches from local Christians, but then decided to detonate his bomb when Christians became suspicious of his intentions.
