(Israel Hayom / Worthy News)– Prior to a vote on the so-called terrorist bill at the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett called on cabinet ministers to support the bill, which would legally prevent certain terrorists from being pardoned.
The law, if passed, would allow courts for the first time to hand down life sentences without the possibility of parole or pardon. The bill was proposed in response to the recent release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, many of them serving life sentences for murder.
Currently, the president has the authority to pardon any prisoner. The bill states that “in recent years, the State of Israel has released a large number of terrorists as part of prisoner exchanges and goodwill gestures. This has created an absurd reality where terrorists are released long before completing their sentence.”
