Israeli Defense Minister: Abbas Must Disarm Hamas
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL (Worthy News)– Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon called on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to disarm Hamas and take control of the Gaza Strip after creating a unity government with Hamas.
“If [Abbas] doesn’t disarm Hamas, the reconciliation would be a misrepresentation intended to deceive the world,” Ya’alon said at a meeting with foreign military attaches in Israel, according to Israel Radio.
Ya’alon referred to the newly formed Palestinian government as, “an entity which just this week made a pact with a ruthlessly murderous terror organization, that pledges to harm Jews wherever they are, and also acts brutally against Christian minorities.”
“While we all yearn for peace, we do not deceive ourselves,” Ya’alon continued. He blamed the PA for its unwillingness to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish State, and to reach a peace accord that will end the conflict for good.
