Muslims Most, Mormons Least Approve of Obama

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Worthy News)– Although 72 percent of U.S. Muslims approved of the job President Barack Obama was doing as president during the first six months of 2014, Mormons were least approving at 18 percent, according to the latest Gallop poll.

In general, Muslims have been most approving of Obama and Mormons the least in the more than five years he has been in office.

Trends in Obama’s job approval by religion have shown that Muslims, Jews and nonreligious Americans gave him higher ratings while Mormons and Protestants gave Obama the lowest ratings.

Catholics have been closest to the national average.

Majorities of members in non-Christian religions — including those not affiliated with any religion — approved of Obama, as opposed to members of the three major Christian religious groups. And as the United States is a predominantly Christian nation with about half of Americans identifying with Protestantism and another quarter identifying as Catholics, their opinions are the most influential in determining Obama’s overall ratings.

Although members of various religions view Obama differently, this may be attributed more to the political party affiliation of each religious group than to the specific policies Obama has taken throughout his presidency.
