Mexican Gov’t Official Threatens Christians

(Worthy News)– Earlier this year, Christians in Hidalgo State, Mexico, were allegedly threatened by a local government representative.

According to International Christian Concern, the threats were the latest in a series of persecutions targeting Christian minorities in Chichiltepec village.

ICC has documented numerous cases of religious persecution among rural communities in Mexico that often target Protestant minorities. There are currently more than 70 open cases involving the persecution of minority Christian communities in Chiapas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla and Guerrero states.

This month, ICC launched a campaign to raise awareness about the ongoing religious persecution in Mexico and called on supporters to send their concerns to its government.

“It is time that the Mexican government provide justice and protection for victims of religious persecution while dealing with local and/or state officials that are part of the problem,” said Jennifer Salcido, ICC’s Advocacy Manager. “A slow wave of religious persecution has been sweeping across Mexico, and the culture of corruption and lack of accountability that surrounds religious freedom cases needs to end….”
