HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (ANS) – Millions of North American viewers will be able to share the excitement of the 9th Annual MOVIEGUIDE(R) Awards Gala hosted by Cheryl Ladd on Easter Sunday, April 15. A one-hour version of the gala, which celebrates Hollywood’s best family and inspirational movies and television programs, will air on PaxTV at 6 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, and 5 p.m. Central time.

Viewers of the PaxTV show will see family-friendly entertainment being honored with a series of awards presented by celebrities like screen legend Jane Russell, Pat Boone, Billy Davis Jr., his wife Marilyn McCoo, Stephen Collins of TV’s 7TH HEAVEN, and Yolanda King, daughter of slain civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Gloria Gaynor will provide some foot-stomping music.

“We are so pleased that PaxTV, which is the nation’s seventh largest television network, will again show the awards,” said Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission and MOVIEGUIDE(R), a family magazine, radio program and TV show which reviews all movies from a biblical perspective. “Our show on PaxTV is getting bigger, and the one this Easter Sunday is going to be bigger and better than last year and will replay in other countries like Australia.

“Bud Paxson, who started the network, is a terrific person to try to bring good entertainment to people and to be on the same side of the fence as Christians. He encourages people and he has really taken up the banner of family television in a very powerful way.

“PaxTV is the only network that almost doubled in audience size in the last year. I think what he has done has proved to be right. He’s trying to create family television and that’s what people want. He’s growing while the other guys remain static or are losing ground.”

PaxTV made its debut on August 31, 1998, and is committed to airing family-friendly programming. The network’s promise to viewers is to feature shows that embody strong values and showcase positive role models with programming that is free of excessive violence, explicit sex and foul language.
