Mexico earthquake: Capital hit by magnitude-8.1 quake, tsunami with at least three confirmed dead


(Worthy News) – A magnitude-8.1 earthquake has struck off the southern coast of Mexico, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, shaking buildings as far away as Guatemala.

Mexico’s civil protection agency said it was the strongest earthquake to hit the capital since a devastating 1985 tremor that flattened swathes of Mexico City and killed thousands.

TSUNAMI WARNING

The epicentre was in the Pacific, about 87km (54 miles) south-west of the town of Pijijiapan and at a depth of 70km, the US Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama and Honduras. [ Source:BBC (Read More…) ]
