Russian Plane Mistakenly Shot Down by Syria Anti-Aircraft Artillery During Israeli Strike

(Worthy News) – During an alleged Israeli airstrike within Syria, Russia claims one of its military aircraft disappeared with 14 people on board.

The plane was over the Mediterranean Sea roughly 20 miles from the Syrian coastline when it disappeared from radar, the Russian defense ministry stated.

“The trace of the Il-20 on flight control radars disappeared during an attack by four Israeli F-16 jets on Syrian facilities in Latakia province,” according to a statement released by the Russian defense ministry.

The plane used for electronic reconnaissance was believed to be mistakenly shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft artillery, according to a “U.S. official with knowledge of the incident”.

When asked about the reported Israeli airstrike and the downed Russian plane an Israeli military spokesman stated, “We don’t comment on foreign reports.”
