U.S. Makes Great Strides to Help Iraqi Christians, More Remains to Be Done

(Worthy News) – Over the past year, the United States has taken steps to aid Christians driven from their homes in Iraq after ISIS swept through the region. Nevertheless, much remains to be done to rebuild the communities of Christians, Yazidis, and other religious minorities.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump signed into law the Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act, which will help the United States channel humanitarian and rebuilding assistance to Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria.

Approximately one million Christians have left Iraq since 2002, leaving fewer than 250,000, most in the Nineveh Plains and Iraqi Kurdistan regions. As of June, 39,914 individual Christians and 8,815 families had returned to the Nineveh Plains, and 4,765 houses had been restored, according to the Nineveh Reconstruction Committee. By early November, an additional 200 individuals and families had returned, and another 1,000 homes had been restored. More than half of the Christians living in the region prior to the rise of ISIS have still not returned. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]
