Trump Administration Puts Small Dent in Planned Parenthood Funding

(Worthy News) – Planned Parenthood will lose $60 million in federal funding following a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision not to freeze a new Department of Health and Human Services rule.

The rule, announced in February, delimits the Title X government program that devotes funds to family planning, stipulating that they are not to be used to “perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion as a method of family planning,” and making “a clear financial and physical separation between Title X and non-Title X activities.”

“Planned Parenthood’s fanaticism about preserving the consultation-to-abortion pipeline at its clinics only shows how necessary the new rules are to ensure that taxpayers are not forced to subsidize abortions,” wrote Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., for CBN after Planned Parenthood attempted to appeal the decision in August.

Despite the change, most of Planned Parenthood’s funding comes through state-funded Medicaid, with only $50 to $60 million deriving from the federal Title X program, the Tennessee Star reported last year.

According to a March 2018 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, local Planned Parenthood clinics received an average of $404 million per year from Medicaid between 2013 and 2015.
