Christians killed by Muslim Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria

(Worthy News) – Four Christians were killed last week in an attack by Muslim Fulani herdsmen in Kaduna state, Nigeria, Morningstar News reports. This attack is the latest in a string of murders committed by herdsmen targeting Christians: Nigeria ranks second after Pakistan on the Open Doors’ 2020 World Watch List for countries where Christians are killed for their faith.

Survivor John Asaragi told Morningstar news that on April 19 herdsmen attacked the Angwan Magaji Kamaru village in Kauru County, killing three women and one man. Two of those killed were reportedly from the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and two were Catholic. Asaragi added: “Thirty-eight houses with 86 rooms were also razed down, while about 87 families are affected.”

Confirming the attack in a press statement, spokesman for the Southern Kaduna People’s Union Luka Binniyat said around 100 attackers descended on the village at around 6:45 pm. “They attacked from four flanks, causing confusion and pandemonium among unsuspecting villagers as village youths tried to fend them off,” he said.

Binniyat also stated that the herdsmen had made a point of burning as many stores of food and grains as they could. “This is to ostensibly cause starvation, especially under this lockdown from the coronavirus,” he said. “So far, about 320 persons have been displaced from the attack and are in dire need of assistance.”

A genocide warning for Nigeria has been in place since January 30, when Christian Solidarity International called on the United Nations Security Council to take action in response to “a rising tide of violence directed against Nigerian Christians and others classified as ‘infidels’ by Islamist militants in the country’s north and middle belt regions.”
