(Worthy News) – Three people enjoying a summer evening in a British park were stabbed to death in “an act of terrorism,” police confirmed Sunday.

Three others were rushed to hospital following the attack in the southern English town of Reading, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) west of London.

Detectives said a man attacked people with a knife late Saturday before being tackled by unarmed officers five minutes after they were alerted.

Security officials identified the man as a 25-year-old Libyan named Khairi Saadallah.

He reportedly was on the radar of Britain’s security agency MI5 last year over intelligence he had aspirations to travel for extremist purposes, although his plans came to nothing.

Suspect Saadallah is reportedly a Libyan asylum-seeker living in Reading.

He remained in custody late Sunday under the Terrorism Act on suspicion of murder, police explained. “The investigation continues to move at a fast pace,” stressed Detective Chief Superintendent Kath Barnes, head of the regional counter-terrorism unit.
