(Worthy News) – Demonstrators took to the streets in cities across the USA Wednesday night to protest a grand jury’s decision not to indict any police officers for the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor on March 13 this year.

Taylor, a 26-year-old black emergency medical worker, was shot five times when Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers forced entry to her home on a no-knock search warrant pertaining to suspected drug dealing. On September 15, the city of Louisville agreed to reform police practices and to pay Taylor’s family $12 million in settlement of a civil suit.

Since the time of Taylor’s death six months ago, protestors have been demanding the indictment of LMPD officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, the officers involved in the shooting.

Hankison was fired by the LMPD on June 23, 2020. A Kentucky grand jury then indicted Hankinso on September 23, but not for Taylor’s death. Hankinso instead faces three counts of wanton endangerment in firing 10 rounds into Taylor’s apartment. The other two officers were not indicted or fired.

As protestors express outrage at the lack of wrongful death charges in cities including NYC and Atlanta, in Louisville, Kentucky, demonstrations took a violent turn and two police officers were shot and injured. One officer has been in surgery and the other is stable, CNN reported Thursday. A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shootings.
