(Worthy News) –
Experts report that US citizens are leaving cities and moving to suburbs, CBN News reports. A previous trend for migration into American cities is reportedly reversing itself, experts say.

According to analysts, city-dwellers from New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago had begun to leave even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit this year but residents are now leaving in droves, CBN News reports. A survey by Pew Research found that one in five people has relocated in recent months, or knows someone who has.

A principle reason for the exodus is that people can work from home, CBN News reports. Abbie Platt of Pearson Smith Realty told CBN News: “[Prospective home buyers/renters] tell me right out of the gate, ‘I am working remotely, there is nothing keeping me in the area.’ They may not have ever considered leaving proximity to an office, where now they will go 30, 40, 50 miles out.”

A number of financial analysts are warning that taxes in cities may rise even higher to compensate for the numbers of businesses that have closed or relocated either before or during the pandemic, CBN News reports. At the same time, rents in New York City, for example, are reportedly much lower now because of the number of people who have left.

Analysts say it could be years before the dust settles and it becomes clear how the current migration has affected large cities and their surrounding suburbs, CBN News reports.
