(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump said he had accepted the resignation of Attorney General William Barr after he questioned the president’s fraud allegations.

“As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family,” Trump said on social networking site Twitter.

Barr went to the White House on Monday, where Trump said he submitted his letter of resignation. Trump had publicly expressed his anger about Barr’s statement this month that the Justice Department had found “no widespread election fraud” that would change the outcome of the vote.

Trump also criticized the Justice Department for not publicly announcing it was investigating potential financial wrongdoing by the declared president-elect’s son, Hunter Biden, ahead of the election. Media reported a department policy against such a pronouncement.

Trump said Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen, whom he labeled “an outstanding person,” would become Acting Attorney General.

It was not immediately clear how long Trump’s appointee would be able to remain in the job.
