(Worthy News) – In another decision that favors churches, the US Supreme Court on Tuesday sent two cases back to the federal courts which had refused to block COVID-19 restrictions on houses of worship, the Daily Wire reports. The Supreme Court instructed the lower courts in the two cases to re-consider their original decisions as, in a pivotal ruling last month, SCOTUS ruled against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s attendance limits on houses of worship.

The two pertinent cases had been brought by the High Plains Harvest Church in Colorado and by Catholic priest Fr. Kevin Robinson and Rabbi Yisrael Knopfler in New Jersey. In the case of High Plains Church, Colorado said the point was moot has Gov. Polis has already lifted capacity restrictions on houses of worship.

In each case, the plaintiffs complained that houses of worship were targeted with limits on numbers of persons allowed in services at one time, while secular businesses were not similarly restricted.

Siding with houses of worship, the Supreme Court said the lower courts which had ruled against the plaintiffs must each reconsider their decision by taking into account the November 26 SCOTUS ruling in the case of Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo: in that case the Court struck down governor Cuomo’s restrictions on numbers at gatherings in houses of worship.
