Iran Says Trump Threatening War

(Worthy News) – Iran has accused U.S. President Donald J. Trump of seeking a “pretext for war” amid mounting tensions between the two nations.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Trump wanted a conflict ahead of the first anniversary of the U.S. killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had pledged to avenge the blood of his most favored military commander. Iran hailed Soleimani as a heroic national figure.

Trump claimed this year that Soleimani had “killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans.” Trump said last week that Iran fired “several rockets” at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, and he warned the Islamic nation of severe consequences if an American is killed.

“Our embassy in Baghdad got hit Sunday by several rockets,” Trump wrote on social networking site Twitter, referring to an attack that caused damage but no deaths.

“Guess where they came from, IRAN,” he stressed. “Now we hear the chatter of additional attacks against Americans in Iraq,” he added. Trump also offered “some friendly health advice to Iran: if one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over.”

It comes amid concerns in Washington about mounting anti-American sentiments around the world. On Thursday, the military announced that the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, the Navy’s supercarrier, is finally heading home after almost 10 months on deployment.

American aircraft were spending their final 10 days supporting military operations in the Horn of Africa, where extremist groups are active.
