(Worthy News) – Iranian lawmakers have begun debating a bill which includes the goal of destroying Israel in 20 years. Introduced to Iran’s parliament on Dec.30 2020, the bill describes Israel as the “aggressor Zionist regime” and states the Jewish nation constitutes a threat to Iran.

A key section of the bill focuses on bringing to pass the desire of recently assassinated Qods Force commander Qasem Soleimani to destroy Israel, the Washington Institute reports. A vital figure in Iran’s military, Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in January 2020: the bill deals with retaliation.

The bill’s key aim pertaining to Israel has been expressed by Iran before: in a notable example, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in 2015 that Israel would not survive the next 25 years because Iran would hound it to destruction.

Accordingly, the proposed legislation also has the US in its sights, the Washington Institute said. A section of the bill refers to a “decisive act of revenge” to weaken the United States and force it out of the region. The bill also proposes to take action against the US for its imposing sanctions against Iran, an act which the bill describes as economic “terrorism.”

If the law is passed it would implicitly have the support of the Supreme Leader, in which case President Hassan Rouhani and future governments would have to follow it, the Washington Institute says.
