(Worthy News) – According to multiple media outlets, Israel has asked for Russia’s help with a humanitarian issue in Syria, the Jerusalem Post reports. The request for assistance was reportedly made during an urgent ZOOM call between cabinet ministers on Tuesday evening; the subject of the meeting has been kept secret.

It is not known what kind of humanitarian help was requested, but talks between Russia and Israel are normally focused on coordinating IDF aerial operations against Iranian positions in Syria, the Jerusalem Post said. Tuesday evening’s meeting followed a week of unusually frequent communication between the two countries.

In recent days there have been talks between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last week, PM Netanyahu’s office issued a statement on the talks saying: “They discussed regional issues and the continued coordination between Israel and Russia regarding security developments in the region.”

Talks have also taken place between Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, and between Foreign Minister Ashkenazi and his Russian counterpart Lavrov, Israel National News reports.

Last Wednesday Defense Minister Gantz talked with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu “regarding security challenges in the Middle East and Syria in particular,” Israel National News said. The two ministers reportedly agreed to continue communications between Russia and Israel in order to promote security and humanitarian measures in the region.
