(Worthy News) – Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, a devoted Christian, thanked hospital staff Thursday after receiving a pacemaker. “My family has been truly blessed by the work of these dedicated healthcare professionals,” Pence said in published remarks.

The pacemaker was impacted during a procedure in Indiana, his office confirmed.

“I am grateful for the swift professionalism and care of the outstanding doctors, nurses, and staff at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute,” Pence added in a statement.

He referred to Dr. Brett Atwater and Dr. Behnam Tehrani. “I also appreciate the consultation of my longtime Indiana physicians, Dr. Michael Busk and Dr. Charles Taliercio at Ascension St. Vincent,” he stressed.

Pence, 61, was previously diagnosed with asymptomatic left bundle branch block, which he disclosed before campaigning for the vice presidency.

The pacemaker was implanted after Pence “over the past two weeks experienced symptoms associated with a slow heart rate,” his office explained. “And upon consultation with his doctors [he], underwent a procedure yesterday at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Virginia, to implant” the pacemaker, Pence’s staff noted.

“The routine surgery was successful, and he is expected to fully recover and return to normal activity in the coming days,” his office said.
