Father Of Alleged Killer Of British Legislator ‘Traumatized’

(Worthy News) – The father of the suspected killer of British Conservative legislator David Amess says he is “traumatized” by his son’s arrest.

Harbi Ali Kullane, a former adviser to the prime minister of Somalia, confirmed that his British-born son, Ali Harbi Ali, 25, was in custody.

Kullane told media Sunday that an anti-terrorist unit from British police Scotland Yard had visited him. “I’m feeling very traumatized. It’s not something that I expected or even dreamt of.”

The suspect was a “self-radicalized” Islamist lone operative known to counterterrorism police, investigators said.

He is believed to have been referred to Prevent, the government’s deradicalization program, before allegedly stabbing Amess on Friday.

British police said earlier that Amess’ killing at a Methodist church in the town of Leigh-on Sea in southeast Essex county was a terror attack potentially linked to Islamist extremism.

“Senior National Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism Policing, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon formally declared the incident as terrorism,” police added. “The early investigation has revealed a potential motivation linked to Islamist extremism.”

A candlelit vigil was held in Leigh-on Sea near the church where the 69-year-old Amess was killed.
