(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday brought down a drone sent into Israeli air space from Lebanon by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese terror organization which is an enemy of Israel, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

At least 74 Hezbollah drones were flown into Israel over the last year, most of which were downed.

Tuesday’s drone was taken down while the IDF was engaged in a month-long drill focused on defending Israel’s northern border, including against Hezbollah in Lebanon, TOI said. In a statement about bringing down the drone, the Israeli military said: “The IDF will continue to operate in order to prevent any attempt to violate Israeli sovereignty.”

The IDF did not specify how it brought the drone down, although the device was photographed and, according to the IDF photo, remained intact. The device was a commercially available drone made by the Chinese company DJI, TOI reports.

Hezbollah sent 94 drones over Israel in 2020 and 54 in 2019, TOI said. Most of these were downed, Israeli media reported.

Israel also sends surveillance drones into Lebanon, and the Lebanese government complains about it, TOI said. However, Israel says its actions are necessary because it must monitor Hezbollah terror activity – an activity that the Lebanese government is supposed to keep in check.
