(Worthy News) – Israel on Monday issued a direct warning to citizens not to travel to Turkey, after Iran threatened retaliation against Israelis worldwide for last week’s assassination of a colonel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Times of Israel (TOI) reports. Israel has not claimed responsibility or officially commented on the assassination.

Reportedly responsible for attempting to murder Israelis, Col. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei of the IRGC was shot to death in his car by two unidentified gunmen on motorbikes in Tehran on May 22. While the Iranian regime has not identified the gunmen, it blames Israel for the assassination.

In a statement about the aftermath of the assassination, Israel’s National Security Council said “For several weeks now, and even more so since Iran blamed Israel for the death of the Revolutionary Guards officer last week, there has been growing concern in the defense establishment about Iranian attempts to harm Israeli targets around the world.”

In issuing its warning, Israel’s National Security Council specified that “Iranian terrorist operatives” had been identified as posing a threat to Israeli traveling to Turkey as a popular tourist destination.

Israel has also raised the security level at embassies and consulates around the world in response to Iran’s threats.
