(Worthy News) – Sixty-six clinics in 14 states have stopped providing abortions since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in June, Politico reports. Twenty-six of these clinics have closed down altogether, including the Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which was at the center of the case through which Roe was reversed.

As of Wednesday, it is almost impossible to get an abortion in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin, Politico said. According to the Guttmacher Institute, these 14 states accounted for 125,780 abortions in 2020.

Forty of the 66 clinics which no long conduct abortions are still open for other services, Politico reports. Meanwhile, the Jackson Women’s Health Organization is now moving from Mississippi, where abortion is now illegal, to New Mexico.

Other states are looking to restrict abortion, including Georgia, which has limited the procedure to six weeks gestation, the time when a fetal heartbeat can be heard. Seven other states have abortion bans on hold while challenges are heard in the courts.

In response to the reversal of Roe v Wade, the Biden administration announced Tuesday it is giving clinics that offer free and subsidized abortion services an additional $6 million, Politico said. Abortion providers in Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Wisconsin will receive the funds.
