Syria Intercepts Israeli Missiles

DAMASCUS (Worthy News) – Syria says its air defenses have intercepted Israeli missiles over the capital Damascus and the southern region, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Friday’s strike would be Israel’s first attack in Syria since September 17, when an apparent Israeli strike at Damascus airport reportedly killed five soldiers.

However, state media claimed missiles were shot down over the capital and closer to the border with Israel.

“Our air defenses intercepted Israeli missile strikes in the airspace of Damascus and the southern region,” Syria’s official news agency SANA said.

Earlier this week, a senior Israeli defense official and two senior Western diplomats said Russia had removed its S-300 anti-aircraft system from Syria to bolster its war against Ukraine.

That move could give Israel more freedom over Syria’s skies even as ties with Moscow cratered, commentators said.

NO COMMENT

Israel rarely comments on individual strikes, but it has acknowledged carrying out hundreds.

It defended the air campaign in Syria to stop arch-foe Iran from gaining a foothold on its doorstep.

It was unclear how Lebanon would react to Israel’s reported resumption of missile strikes.

The recent pause in such strikes coincided with a maritime dispute between Israel and Lebanon that ended in an agreement earlier this month.

A brief hiccup in the talks had briefly raised tensions along the northern frontier with the Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group.
