(Worthy News) – The US is set to see a total lunar eclipse early on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, midterm Election Day, USA Today reports.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun and the moon are on the exact opposite sides of Earth: with Earth between them, the sun’s light cannot reach the moon, and Earth’s shadow falls on it instead. When the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon during an eclipse, it may produce a red color, leading to the nickname “blood red moon.”

Those living in North America can see the eclipse just before sunrise on November 8, USA Today reports. Those who live in the western US will have the best view of the eclipse; those in the center and east of the country can see just before the moon sets below the horizon.
Other regions that will see at least some parts of the eclipse are North/East Europe, Asia, Australia, much of South America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic, and Antarctica, TimeandDate.com reports.

Lunar eclipses may be seen on any part of the night side of the Earth if the sky is clear, TimeandDate.com said. Unlike with solar eclipses, no special glasses are required to see the November 8 eclipse, people can look directly at the moon and even use binoculars to see it better.
