JAKARTA (Worthy News) – U.S. President Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, China’s top leader, will meet face to face Monday in Indonesia — their first meeting since Biden took office.

It comes while Christians in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim nation, and believers in China face persecution in several areas of these nations.

It was unclear whether human or religious rights were part of the discussion. Officials suggested that the meeting will focus on how to ease tensions between the two nations.

With deepening military, economic and diplomatic rivalry, their talks were to show whether they could halt a downward spiral that brought U.S.-China relations to their lowest point in many decades.

The talks come as world leaders gather in Bali, the popular southern Indonesian island known by tourists for its spectacular sunsets over the sea and culture.

The Group of 20 (G20 summit), which begins Tuesday and lasts two days, will comprise 19 countries, including Britain, France, Germany, and Italy, as well as the European Union.

However, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continuing, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the summit. Instead, Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, will attend the gathering.

Earlier, Biden met with Southeast Asian leaders this weekend at a summit in Cambodia.
