(Worthy News) – The US Senate unanimously passed a bill Wednesday that would ban federal employees from using Tik Tok, the popular Chinese-owned video-sharing app, on government devices, the Washington Post reports. The bill will now pass to the House for approval, which would need to be given before the end of the congressional year.

The bill was introduced by Republican senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who stated that Tik Tok is a significant security risk for the US, WaPo reports. If approved, the bill would align the federal government with GOP-led states that have already banned state employees from using Tik Tok on government-issued devices.

“TikTok is a Trojan Horse for the Chinese Communist Party. It’s a major security risk to the United States, and until it is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices,” Hawley said.

“States across the U.S. are banning TikTok on government devices. It’s time for Joe Biden and the Democrats to help do the same.”

The bill would forbid all federal employees, except those working in law enforcement or national security, from downloading or using the app on government-issued devices.

Denying that the app poses a risk to US Security, TikTok Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Pappas has stated that “under no circumstances” would the company’s employees be allowed to pass data to China’s ruling Chinese Communist Party, WaPo said.
