TEHRAN (Worthy News) – The European Union has condemned Iran after executing two men for their involvement in anti-government protests sparked by the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami, 22, and Mohammad Hosseini, 39, were hung for killing “a paramilitary force member” during the rallies, the judiciary said Saturday.

The two men were “the main perpetrators of the crime that led to the martyrdom of Ruhollah Ajamian, were hanged this morning,” judicial news agency Mizan Online announced Saturday.

The latest killings in the strict Islamic nation doubled the number known to have been executed so far in connection to the nationwide protests. Two men were executed last month, causing global outrage.

The protests followed the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16 while in police custody for allegedly not her hijab “correctly” and sporting skinny jeans.

Her family says Amini was beaten, and her head struck several times. Iran’s government and police denied the accusations, claiming her death was due to an “underlying disease.”

MORE DEATHS

Iran’s government and police denied the accusations, claiming her death was due to an “underlying disease.”

After protests broke out following her death, more than 500 demonstrators, including scores of children, have been killed, according to human rights groups.

The EU is “appalled” by the executions, according to a spokeswoman for the bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borrell.

The 27-nation bloc urged Iranian authorities to “immediately put an end to the highly reprehensible practice of … carrying out death sentences” and “cancel without delay” those that are planned.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said the executions were “abhorrent.”

It comes amid an ongoing government crackdown on opponents and minorities, including Christians.
