Kentucky Governor Urges Prayers As Several Killed At Bank

LOUISVILLE, USA (Worthy News) – Residents in the U.S. state of Kentucky faced calls for prayers Monday after authorities confirmed that at least four people were killed, including friends of the governor, while eight others were injured in a shooting at a bank in downtown Louisville.

The suspected gunman also died at the scene, police confirmed, in a case that underscored broader concerns about ongoing mass shootings in the United States.

In emotionally charged remarks, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said two of his close friends were among the killed victims, while another friend was hospitalized with injuries sustained in the attack. At least seven other people were also wounded, explained the Louisville Metro Police Department.

“This is awful,” Beshear told reporters. “I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today, and I have another close friend that didn’t either and one who’s at the hospital that I hope is going to make it through.”

He urged prayers for those suffering in the tragedy. “So when we talk about praying, I hope people will for those that we are hoping can make it through the surgeries that they are going through,” he commented.

“And then we’ve got to do what we have done these last three years after everything; we’ve got to wrap our arms around these families,” the governor said.

FIRING GUNSHOTS

He spoke as more details emerged about the tragedy at the Old National Bank.

Paul Humphrey, the deputy chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department, told the media that police received calls early Monday.

He recalled that when they arrived on the scene, “they encountered the suspect almost immediately, still firing gunshots.”

Monday’s shooting was the 15th known mass killing in the country this year.

The attack came just two weeks after a former student killed three children and three adults at a Christian elementary school in Nashville some 160 miles (260 kilometers) to the south.

“Our bodies and our minds are not meant to go through these types of tragedies,” Kentucky’s governor said.
