Nigeria: 50 members of Plateau Baptist Convention murdered by jihadists

(Worthy News) – Fifty members of the Baptist Conference in Nigeria’s Plateau state have been killed in a recent spate of attacks by Islamic jihadists in Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

In an interview with NAN on Sunday in Jos, Keoleh Saleh, the president of the Baptist Conference in Plateau, said a pastor was among the 50 people killed, and that 500 conference members have also been displaced.

“This unfortunate carnage affected the Baptist Church seriously; In Kantoma, where we have a big church, we lost over 31 members, including a Moderator,” Saleh said. “We have located four centers in Jos metropolis where a family is hosting between 10 to 20 people, and we have over 200 displaced persons in Jos.

“We have 50 in Barkin Ladi, over 200 in Salama Baptist Church in Mangu and 78 others that included 44 little children at Bwarak, Pankshin,” Saleh continued, adding that 23 women had lost their husbands in the killings.

After visiting displaced members sheltering in various church buildings, Israel Akanji, the national president of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, called on government and security agencies to help the victims and to deal with the relentless slaughter, kidnapping, and displacement of Nigerian Christians at the hands of Islamic terrorists.

Islamic terrorists have killed more than 50,000 Christians in Nigeria since 2015; Nigeria ranks 6th on the US Open Doors World Watch List 2023 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
