WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump was mentioned Wednesday as the new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives just hours after Congressman Kevin McCarthy was removed from that position in an unprecedented move.

McCarthy was expelled from his role as Speaker in a 216-210 vote late Tuesday, the first time in U.S. history that the House voted to remove its leader.

Leading the unprecedented effort to remove McCarthy was Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida, who filed a “motion to vacate.” He condemned McCarthy’s support for a bipartisan deal to avert a government shutdown that saw the support of most Republicans and all but one Democrat.

The historic first highlighted the ongoing conflict between the Republican Party’s establishment and its perceived hard right and prompted angry reactions.

Former President Trump, who seeks re-election next year, wondered on social media: “Why is it that Republicans are always fighting among themselves, why aren’t they fighting the Radical Left Democrats who are destroying our Country?”

Soon after, Congressman Troy E. Nehls wrote on social media platform X that “Kevin McCarthy will not be running again as Speaker.” He added: l nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.”

TRUMP RUNNING?

The phrase “Nominate Trump” was also trending on Elon Musk’s social media site X, formerly known as Twitter—inspired at least in part by the writings of Troy Nehls, a Republican from Texas.

Shortly after, Fox News broadcaster host Sean Hannity—who remained very close with the former president and was called a “shadow chief of staff” by White House staffers during Trump’s tenure—said he had been in touch with several Republican members of Congress who planned to pursue the idea formally.

Hannity suggested that Trump “may be open to the idea.”

Representative Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio and Trump ally and a potential candidate for the speakership himself, shrugged off the idea but didn’t rule it out, saying: “I want him to be the next President of the United States, but if he wants to be speaker, that’s fine too.”

However, being interim Speaker wouldn’t prevent Trump from campaigning for president and would ensure even more publicity for him, Worthy News observed.
