(Worthy News) – Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned the Russian ambassador in a rebuke of Moscow’s refusal to unequivocally condemn Hamas and for Russia’s hosting of Hamas officials last week, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

Simona Halperin, deputy director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Euro – Asia Division told Moscow’s envoy Anatoly Viktorov on Sunday that Israel takes a “serious view” of Russia’s refusal to issue a clear statement condemning Hamas, TOI reports.

Russia is on good terms with Hamas, and does not consider the Palestinian jihadists to be a terrorist organization, despite the fact their violence against Israeli civilians on October 7 was such that the US described the group as “worse than ISIS.”

The summoning of Viktorov followed Russia’s hosting of Hamas officials in Moscow, as Israel continues its war effort to destroy the Hamas stronghold in Gaza, TOI said. Russia’s deputy foreign minister met with the Hamas representatives to discuss the war on this occasion.

“Hosting Hamas leaders who are directly responsible for the murderous terror attack on October 7, the kidnapping of hostages and with the blood of over 1,400 Israelis on their hands, sends a message of legitimacy for terror against Israel,” Halperin told Viktorov.
