House of Representatives Censures Rashida Tlaib Over Anti-Israel Rhetoric

(Worthy News) – The House of Representatives censured Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for “promoting misleading narratives” regarding the Israel conflict, marking the second instance this year in which a Democratic lawmaker has faced condemnation from fellow members.

Lawmakers voted 234-188 to censure Tlaib, citing her for stating the attacks against Israel were “resistance to apartheid” concerning the October 7 attack on Israel by the Hamas militant group and for allegedly advocating for the “destruction of the state of Israel.”

Israel is not an apartheid state as all of its citizens, both Jewish and Arabs have equal rights.  There are currently 2.1 million Arab-Israeli citizens representing 21 percent of Israel’s population according to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics.

The resolution highlighted Tlaib’s latest controversy, which originated from a video she shared over the weekend.

The video showed pro-Palestinian protesters marching in various cities across the country and chanting the phrase “from the river to the sea,” which alludes to the region encompassing Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River.

The phrase prompted widespread backlash from several members of Tlaib’s own party, who pointed to the slogan’s adoption by the Hamas, deemed a terrroist organization by the United States, that advocates for the destruction of Israel.

Consequently, 22 Democrats joined almost all Republicans who voted in favor of censuring Tlaib, surpassing the majority vote required for the legislation to take effect. Only four Republicans opposed the measure.
