(Worthy News) – According to US officials, a drone strike carried out by the US in Baghdad resulted in the deaths of three individuals associated with the Iranian-backed Kata’ib Hezbollah militia organization, among them the leader of the group’s activities in Syria.

This action was taken by the Biden administration in response to attacks on American forces, specifically targeting those responsible for a drone assault that led to the death of three U.S. service members in Jordan the previous month.

The U.S. military “conducted a unilateral strike in Iraq in response to the attacks on U.S. service members, killing a Kata’ib Hezbollah commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on U.S. forces in the region,” according to Pentagon’s Central Command.

According to media outlets, representatives from militia group in Iraq confirmed the death of Wissam Mohammed “Abu Bakr” al-Saadi, who served as the leader of Kata‘ib Hezbollah’s activities in Syria.

In recent months, Iranian-backed militia organizations have initiated over 150 assaults on U.S. military personnel stationed in the Middle East.

The airstrike conducted on Wednesday is expected to further strain relations between the U.S. and the Iraqi government. Iraq previously criticized last week’s U.S. strikes on Iran-backed militias within its territory and has initiated discussions regarding the potential withdrawal of over 2,000 American soldiers stationed in Iraq.
